A quick Q&A with Dominic and Jennifer

1. What made the both of you decide to embark on the journey?
As neither of us have any dance background at all, it took a lot of convincing on my part to get my husband to agree to take private dance lessons. My strategy was to show him YouTube videos of awkward or boring first dances to show him what we wanted to avoid. 

2. How was the entire preparation and journey like for the both of you?
Jen: Skye had us pick 3 songs that we liked and worked with us to pick one that had a most suitable beat for the vibe we trying to create with our first dance. From the beginning, he taught us so many useful tricks like dancing with our eyes closed so we can feel our partner’s push and pull and react accordingly. This helped build our dance instincts which was a great foundation to have. Skye was quick to observe our skill level and switch the choreography around depending on how we were coping with the moves. Instead of getting overwhelmed with an entire song worth of choreography, Skye pieced little sections together in easy to digest blocks. He was also able to help choreograph a transition between my father-daughter dance and the first dance with husband which was terrific. Wedding planning at times got stressful and was the source of disagreements between us. But our home dance practices were a great way to bring us closer because it’s hard to stay mad at your fiancée when you are having fun dancing!

3. What was your experience on the wedding day itself? What do your friends and family think about it?
Our guests loved it and we got many compliments on our dance. I made a few minor mistakes during the big day but Skye had coached Dominic and I on recovering seamlessly from mistakes so our guests didn’t notice our boo-boos. Our guests loved watching the little moments between my Dad and I in our father-daughter dance. They also loved that our personalities shone through in some cheeky dance moves between my husband and I.

4. Looking back and watching the videos of the both of you on the special day itself, what are your thoughts?
Looking back, I love watching my now-husband twirl me around on the dancefloor. Beyond the flashy dance moves, I can tell from the way he looks at me and the way he holds me that he truly treasures me. We’re so lucky to have that memory captured on video and we’ve already spent many late nights reminiscing over the beautiful evening. Choosing to work with Skye for private dancing lessons was one of the best decisions we made!
