I’m glad Skye pushed us to our limits! He was patient when we kept asking him to repeat & show us some dance parts & he gave solid advice on some dance techniques…. he gave us lots of encouragements and key look outs to help make it better.
1. What made the both of you decide to embark on the journey?
Grace: it was an impromptu idea. I didn’t expect to have a first dance incorporated during the wedding but after the first two sessions, I felt that it would be such a waste if we didn’t perform during our wedding ?
Keith: I actually wasn’t agreeable to it at first as the wedding was messy to begin with, and we already confirmed the venue with tables before we even checked if we could do a dance. But Grace coaxed me into it, suggesting that it was a fun couple activity even if it doesn’t panned out for the actual day. After the first lesson, Grace and I felt it would have been a waste to not give the dance a shot and we decided to put our best in it.
2. How was the entire preparation and journey like for the both of you?
Grace: It was serious & fun at the same time! Skye encouraged us a lot and we pushed ourselves to add in a shoulder lift at the last minute. So glad we made it work! The audience clapped the loudest at that part. We practiced at least twice a week (30-45mins) in between lessons all the way to the wedding. It was a great time to spend time with one another 😀
Keith: It was a really rushed affair for both of us since we had a bit going on at work and I had to be in the army camp for 2 weeks. But we set aside some time between each lesson and practiced. We had some difficult manoeuvres which were a struggle to nail them down and we definitely felt like giving up on those moves. We tried getting some tips in between and we persevered, and when we finally managed to nail those moves down we were elated.
3. What was your experience on the wedding day itself? What do your friends and family think about it?
Grace: Time passed so fast from morning gate crash & tea ceremony! When it came to lunch, all I was thinking about was the dance! ? it was all thanks to the practice my body was moving by itself without thinking! But I could’ve smiled more though!
Keith: I have to admit that the dance was a fantastic addition. With all the chaos that’s happening during the wedding, the dance was the only thing we had full control over. And it was the only thing that I remembered from the entire wedding. My friends and family were impressed, especially with all the lifts and turns.
4. Looking back and watching the videos of the both of you on the special day itself, what are your thoughts?
Grace: Loved it! No regrets!! Lucky I managed to coerce Keith to do the dance with me ? I definitely still think I have two left feet, but I’m so proud that we pulled the whole dance off. It’ll be something memorable for the rest of our lives!
Keith: Looking back at the videos, we actually could hear the audience going “woah” and “woo” as we spun around. I think that definitely gave us a huge sense of satisfaction knowing that our efforts were not in vain and it was very much appreciated by everyone.
5. How was your experience with our instructor?
Grace: I’m glad Skye pushed us to our limits! He was patient when we kept asking him to repeat & show us some dance parts & he gave solid advice on some dance techniques. We hope we didn’t disappoint him! ?
Keith: I think a lot of the moves definitely couldn’t have been done if it weren’t for the tips Skye gave us when we were practicing. He gave us videos and pointers via text to help us figure out the move while we practice it. And with each video recording we sent to him, he gave us lots of encouragements and key look outs to help make it better.
